Great post, great considerations and reportage! Thank you so much, a breath of fresh air in the smoke and dust cloud many have raised not accidentally...
Interesting. The world seems to be run, the USA in particular, by the bigger-is-better mindset. Brute force indeed, with the assumption of unlimited finite resources (uh-huh).
IMO, STEM has a way of putting zero value on human intuition where strokes of simple genius emerge occasionally. Einstein viewed it as a great gift that is ignored all too often. Seems to me that the DeepSeek founders’ hiring practices didn’t lock out those with an intuitive mind.
Surely someone in the west was aware of DS a long time ago and working on similar stuff? Huang said he never stops thinking about who or what is nipping at his heels... I would think all these tech guys feel the constant pressure to stay in front.
Nope, not until 6 months ago. Working on similar stuff, yes 100% but Western thought only they would figure out, or were ahead 12+ months.
This was one of the biggest wake up calls for SV, and you now have OpenAI and Anthropic's CEO crying for daddy government to please help =( we can't compete.
I came across a US company today using Fractal. I didn't understand the tech but I understood the statements that said they run on small devices and don't need big data centres and can analyse large data sets very quickly at low energy. They had analysed the financial connections between different NGO's it was impressive and disruptive. I think it was called Fractal government ( the website) .
I just felt like writing it, and I write what I feel like (wow, remarkable lol). Normal one coming soon.

Really appreciated this. Like to share it on nostr.
You can copy and paste the text there too if you want.
When will these fcukers build 'DeepThought' in order to find 'The Answer', but not the question. 42.
Mention of the 'annotations industry' is apparently still taboo, so kudos.
