There's a key difference. It's known that the top CCP folks have real journalists on their speed dial - they may feed the populace with BS, but they want to know what's really going on before making critical decisions, as they understand there's limits to narrative control and BS. The western elites on the other hand, have not been seriously challenged for a long time, and have become too inbred and complacent, and started to believe their own BS. That's why we now have the series of cascading crises... and the average westerner, who grew up on BS, still believes that their leaders have agency and are at least semi-competent, and this is the real shocker - that they still have societal interests at heart. Yes, despite all evidence to the contrary.
I work at a metals casting plant in Canada for a huge Multinational Corporation. I was talking to the plant safety manager yesterday about all the unaddressed safety issues in the plant. He proudly talked about the project they're working on for our plant to go 100% carbon neutral (as if that would deal with a lot of these safety issues).
This is the last place on earth you'd even attempt to make carbon neutral. The amount of electricity and natural gas we consume is beyond belief. Are they planning on putting nuclear reactors on the roof? How many trillions of dollars is the government giving them? We don't have the technical competency to turn an exhaust fan on because they all retired and have been replaced with Ursula von der Leyen caliber intellects. Even without this carbon neutral project this plant couldn't stay open for another 20 years if a trillion dollars fell from heaven into our laps. It would be better if the company/government/idiots who cooked up this idea, paid us all to sit at home. At least that way the landfill isn't going to get filled up with worn out and broken fantasy solutions.
My point is that I don't believe this shitstorm of stupidity that's overtaken the world originates with a material cause. Otherwise it wouldn't be everywhere at every level. The CCP isn't paying Mr Safety Manager to be totally clueless. Clearly, every other person he sits in meetings with sees things the same way as him. Clown show extraordinaire.
