Given how many events, papers, everything else going on, I didn't have the time to write about recent Omicron immune responses measurements, but I spent a few hours today reading recent papers by Chinese groups, and was surprised to find that both in vaccinated and unvaccinated, Omicron elicits a strong IL-17 response (the authors will argue this is positive, but I digress).

Higher levels of IL-17, IL-10, TNF-a are all contributors to developing Mycoplasma Pneumonia. Too much of anything is bad, add the feedback loop of Omicron > Influenza > bacterial infection and you get the recent trend.

I wish everyone a good week. In case you are curious, I will be 38 in December 9.

We usually "celebrate." We usually just go out to dinner.

It's never too late to get married. (I don't mean that as pressure or shaming. Just an observation.)

You're welcome! I really hope it's a great one!

I don't think I will have the time so I don't want to just put some nice women into a solitude hell.

I think I will... Just work on my birthday 😂

Professor - Do you remember when you'd hear stories about how when so & so was young, they suffered a really bad cold - flu - infection and that's how they wound up in their current "condition"? Perhaps your too young to remember those days. One must remember, HIV predates the Gunfight at The OK Corral. But I digress, I remember when getting up (in the morning or from any position) did not involve sound effects. Good times. But I date myself. Happy Birthday Kid! Enjoy the gift Mr. Mulder. https://youtu.be/z92bykaeV4o?

I do recall people saying that about a bad flu yes 😆 now I know some of the how's and the why's.

I also have sound effects when waking up, cracking bones that shouldn't be cracked.

Thank you 🙏🏻

First of all Happy Birthday a lil early. Second for someone chronically ill that had mycoplasma pneumoniae at least twice. And may still have it. Aby recommendations or suggestions? Thanks.

Antibiotics to clear the infection, and many of the supplements I recommend for COVID works against many other pathogens, the supplements are quasi-univerasal, but your chronic illness will dictate what exactly and how much you should take to recover/improve.

Happy Birthday JP! Thanks for all the great information you’ve shared with us strangers on the internet! One of the reasons I appreciate you is I can “see” your care and compassion for your readers. Wish you had a PayPal or PO Box so we could send gifts to you. (I know you are humble and you aren’t doing this for accolades but I wouldn’t be doing the many helpful supplements without your input)

I do care, that is why I take a very hard instance towards certain people sometimes, thank you for your kind words. Few understand that I actually care.

PayPal doesn't work on Brazil, a few subscribers tried, but KoFi works, and Brazil has no PO Box, I could give you my address, but sending stuff here IS AN ORDEAL. It is very stresseful because it takes LONG to be delivered (if it didn't get stolen in the first case hahaha).

Indeed, I do it to help people, because I was in the same situation some of the Long Covid find themselves, and other people with other conditions. I know how they feel, so I try to help.

So much of the information that we see is just knee-jerk reactive responses to things that the "other side" says, and that's obviously very counterproductive. The authorities wanted to terrify the public as much as they could, so they described it as uniquely deadly. It was obvious that death during the infection phase wasn't an issue for most people, so some of the skeptics seized on that: the authorities were lying, therefore covid was no different than a regular cold. That's not entirely unreasonable to assume, because most people recover easily from it as far as the typical respiratory virus symptoms go, but as you write, a lot of the sequelae are long-lasting and nebulous like a lot of chronic conditions about which the medical community is ignorant. Ironically, these skeptics think they're refusing to allow the authorities' message to influence their decisions, but that's exactly what they're doing by rejecting the dangers of the virus.

But here we are: the virus isn't going away and attempts to isolate yourself completely from it isn't going to work and it will probably turn around and bite you. So you're sharing the best approach: arm our bodies with the best health that we can achieve to give ourselves a fighting chance against the inevitable exposures.

So Omicron has been around for like 2 years now. You say still on guard because things might change soon?

How long can omicron last?

Expand full comment
author

Just take some supplements, exercise and body takes care of the rest.

Omicron should be renamed "SARS-CoV-3" it is something else now, very distant from 2. It is here to stay but at least for a few good years I would keep taking little bit of extra care.

It is a long-term problem now.

Family reunions will be fun every vaccination season then.

Real question, a certain type of excersice is better? Or active life (like chasing a toddler, and daily walks) is enough?

Daily walks with a weighted vest or weight in a backpack (rucking). Lifting. Purpose built exercise.

Working in a farm also works though lol

A little off topic, but what is your opinion of BC007? The long covid community talks about this like it's the "holy grail" to cure LC that the drug regulators are preventing from having any clinical trials..

It is similar to the ones created by the Chinese, there are a few of these peptides, but they never see the light of day. In this particular case, we would need some clinical trials because it is a "novel" thing.

Otherwise most Long Covid people would benefit quite drastically from BPC and Thymalin IMO.

Hey, I saw this preprint shared by "black santa" on twitter.. and this part is interesting "The in vitro ACE2 binding assay (of JN1 suggests) decrease (in) binding affinity to the human ACE2 receptor." Does it mean organs that have ACE2 are not as infected by the spike protein? Ty!

I am writing about it right now, it means what I forecasted months ago, the virus is trading off infectivity and replication towards persistentence.

The problem is that ir doesn't only use ACE2, it just had a preference to it because it was easier. It now will infected other cells and organ with more efficiency but with less virus.

Expand full comment

Does your stack address/fix the "persistence"? Which ones in particular? Ty

Expand full comment
author

Persistence is quite complicated, but yes, if your immune system is functional and up to par it won't be a problem for most people.

But slowly, but surely this thing is degrading us. The ones I recently recommended on Twitter when someone asked me. Anything to keep your CD8/NK top shape.

Hello again,

Do you know if there is a way to test for mitochondria dysdunction? Maybe, a spinal tap but I am not sure if it would actually test if I have a low level of mitochondria in my brain?? There was one journal article on the Linkedin website; where it explained that there is some evidence suggesting that mitochondria dysfunction is connected to the development of Hypersomnolence disorder.

However, I looked in google scholar to see if there is a connection between mitochrondria dysfunction and bipolar depression, but I only found one peer reviewed article that showed this connection between bipolar disorder and mitochrondia dysfunction. I am going to look in pubmed to see if I can find additional articles on this topic.

Take care,

Vinny

You should never do a spinal tap test unless strictly necessary and a emergency. There are multiple ways to test mitochondrial dysfunction, depending hte symptoms muscle biopsy (not your case).

Blood tests (Lactate, Pyvurate, Alanine-lysine ratio), complex I activity, cytochrome c oxidase activity, some more broad microbiome tests also will measure your mitochondrial function.

Mitochondrial dysfunction can be found on almost any disease known to man, from physiological to neurological. I will give you enough information when reply to the other message via e-mail.

15 years ago my doctor (then) and I figured out I had MTHFR SNPs, so we tested all five of the folates that impact that set of pathways and found I made huge improvements when I supplemented with L-5-MethylTetraHydroFolate (L5MTHF). One of the things he cautioned me about at that time and others have in newsletters is that at least here in the States, "Folic Acid" is a manufactured variant of natural folates, and I should not take it. However, people use that term pretty loosely, so I pass on the caution so people will be sure to know exactly which variant they are taking.

I also wanted to let people know that if they have low energy and high Homocysteine (which I gather can cause red dot growths on the skin called hemangiomas which is true for me), they can try the five types of folate and see if one or more help increase energy. Made a huge difference for me when I found the right one.

Also, when I found I was low in B12, I tried injections of B12, and it was like fire in my skin/muscles (10+ on the pain scale). I found out that a few people have such a painful reaction to B12 injections that they can only supplement orally, which is what I do. To help absorption, I let it dissolve on my tongue.

For those with high Homocysteine, the right folate(s) can help reduce it but won't generally get it all the way back down to 7.

I found that exercise helped, as did Creatine HCl, TriMethylGlycine, Phosphatidyl Serine. Each took my Hcy down two points until it was back to 7-8. So, yes, as Moriarty says, exercise matters! :-)
