Mycoplasma is a very interesting bacterium. Very small (150-200nm). No cell wall. No gram staining and has very fastidious growth requirements. Uncommon in kids <5 usually in kids 5-15. Cyclical epidemics.
Called the walking pneumonia because it can even be asymptomatic and most people are not sick enough to need hospitalization. BUT it can cause a bunch of other stuff like encephalitis and skin problems like Steven Johnson's syndrome (seen one of those). Most do well and don't need IVs.
