"The potential is infinite, and freedom is finally achievable, for once in our recent history."

Thats what they said to the Luddites nearly 200 years ago and periodically ever since.

Unlike all our other technological leaps this one is pretty scalable with just a beef laptop and decentralized collaboration. I am trying to be realistic but optimistic when it comes to this technology.

I’m afraid Augustine would disagree. Absent God the cities of God and of man are indistinguishable.

Only God is infinite. Without Him we have no wisdom or sane, consistent morality to keep from destroying ourselves. More shiny new tools (that can be used for such purposes) are not the answer for what plagues humanity.

But if the technocrats get the masses to worship AI as a god, you could call their fifteen minute cities "Cities of gods." Small g.

So, being a good Christian does not suffice?

I am an orthodox protestant, a follower of Jesus Christ. I hold to the creeds and the four solas. Pray tell what revelations of God have I rejected? I’ll make it easy. Name just one.

Nice try. Well, at least you passed the 5 Solas test. Most Catholics I know couldn’t name even one, but then the solas are not Catholic doctrine. Rather, they summarize the 5 principles of the Reformation with each one rooted very firmly in Scripture. If they are inventions then so is much of Scripture. There is no Biblical basis for the Pope. Not even close. You misunderstand Jesus’s play on words in Matt 16:18. The “rock” is the confession that Jesus is Lord, not Petros the rock. I also categorically reject Mary as the mother of God and co-redemptrix, in fact in my view it is anathema. I am sure that Mary would feel the same way. Sorry. See Acts 4:12. As far as how to interpret the Lord’s Supper, let me say that what happens to the communion elements is a mystery that no person can fathom. Is the Lord’s presence real, or spiritual, or something else? Scripture is not clear. However, I am firmly convinced that any ceremony (perhaps the Mass?) that purports to sacrifice him again and again is anathema. See, for example Hebrews 7:27. And so, my Catholic friend, you have not met my very low bar. And yet, like Peter in Matt. 16:18, if you confess that “Jesus is Lord” (the Christ, the Son of the living God), then despite our disagreements, you are my brother in Christ. However, when I say Jesus is Lord, I mean Jesus plus nothing else. Jesus plus something else may be treading on another gospel. See, for example Gal. 1:8-12. And if I’m wrong, I’ll gladly serve my penalty in purgatory. Wait, purgatory is not scriptural either and so I reject it. What can I say? Peace. Some of my best Christian friends are a Catholics.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Five_solae:

- 1. The doctrine of Sola Scriptura, in a nutshell, affirms that Scripture is our only source of normative, apostolic, infallible revelation and that “all things necessary for salvation and about faith and life are taught in the Bible with sufficient clarity so that the ordinary believer can find it there and understand it.

- 2. Sola fide: Faith is necessary to salvation unconditionally. Good works are necessary only conditionally, that is if there is time and opportunity. The thief on the cross in Luke 23:39-43 is Wesley's example of this. He believed in Christ and was told, "Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in Paradise." This would be impossible if the good works that are the fruit of genuine repentance and faith were unconditionally necessary for salvation.

-3. Sola gratia: "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast." (Ephesians 2:8-9)

- 4. Solo Christo: Excludes the priestly class as necessary for sacraments. Solus Christus is the teaching that Christ is the only mediator between God and man, and that there is salvation through no other.

-5. Soli Deo gloria: or "glory to God alone", stands in opposition to the veneration perceived by many to be present in the Roman Catholic Church of Mary the mother of Jesus, the saints, or angels.

Isn't it a bit harsh for rank-and-file Orthodox or Protestant just trying to connect with Jesus the best they can? Say, in Greece or Holland? BTW, the split into Orthodox and Catholic churches happened about 1054, for good.

If Catholic == Christian, wouldn't the term Christian be more uniting and more in the spirit of Christ? In the hope that all those that consider themselves Christian may one day overcome their differences in one Church of Jesus Christ? And we know what it is. After much atonement.

The premise of the epsilon piece make the assumption that AI can and will see through all the lies.

History and most of the literature that has come from it is either straight up lies, partial lies, and/or based on lies.

I grew up in libraries, dewey was my best and nearly only friend who saved my life on many occasions. It also got me into more trouble than I can say. I have been a truth seeker for over 50 years and there was a brief period where searchable databases then the internet made it somewhat easier and very enjoyable. Throughout this process I invariably discover that much of what I knew was actually a lie and uncovering the truth was exciting and liberating. Then it became harder and harder to learn the truth once the lie is discovered. Now it is nearly impossible to learn the truth and much of the truths I uncovered in the past have been scrubbed.

To assume that AI will work through all that and ultimately find, accept, promote the truth, the human spirit, the City of Man is a wonderful thought and I will always hold out for it but man thats a HuGe stretch.

Would someone with a subscript to CPT please ask it "why do they lie and why does everyone believe them?".

Untoward motives? No, what I sensed was a narrow reliance on unscriptural dogma and a lack of grace toward a fellow member of the body of Christ. The former I can overlook for I am no theologian myself. However, I took umbrage at the later. Perhaps too much. You chose to write that that Protestants are not Christian. I know very well what that means to a Catholic such as yourself. And it angered me. In a world where Christians die daily from persecution we cannot be fighting amongst ourselves. It serves no purpose but Satan’s. I apologize if my words were harsh and equally lacking in grace.

Protestant brother, but not Christian brother? I take that to mean damned to hell for not accepting Catholic dogma/traditions at face value, without, like the Bereans (Acts 17:11) first searching the scriptures to see if is so? Blessings. Jesus is Lord!

It would be interesting to know how you define "freedom".

While we're at it, "intelligence".

For freedom just read or listen to the article mentioned. To me, is free from the absurdist grasp a small percentage of the human population has on quite literally everything else, also free from all types of frauds, which LLMs and AI are exposing by the minute (one of the reason the AI doomers fear these models so much, because they are being exposed as frauds).

Freedom to pursue what the person desires, freedom to achieve their goals. AI and LLMs makes "everyone" equal, a most people actually fear true equality.

Intelligence with an i is a completely different talk, if you are talking about AI, it is nowhere even near actual intelligence, but they are undeniably powerful tools (to anyone with a modicum of curiosity).

Thank you.

That's an interesting point of view - something akin to a libertarian one? I hold the non-political view that the ruling elites are actually the most enslaved people of all. They ARE the fraud and live a lie their entire existence. They would not last a week on the street as they are incapable of the most basic tasks or earning any amount of money. People like Elon Musk or Bill Gates have shown time and time again that they are complete imbeciles who would probably starve to death were it not for their parasitic way of life and the inordinate amount of naiveté and patience from the gullible mass who feed their mouths. My personal definition of freedom is the point where you are self-sufficient and do not depend on anyone else to fulfill your basic needs - mainly, food and shelter - which is the very thing those bandits have consistently wanted to take away from the masses, in order to sell their sick version of it. I believe God and nature are the core providers of freedom, everything else is just a game, usually not a very interesting one.

I can see where you stand on the issue of AI but I don't believe LLM can provide any new kind of freedom. They are just language tools and language is in and of itself a mind trap.

Just my two cents.

About the recording:

1) I remember making lists of all the things I wanted to know about at a particular time and taking it to the library only to find many of the books needed to answer the questions NOT on the shelves. Some were and notes were taken or the book was signed out. So, the internet is truly appreciated.

2) A simple statement: Experiencing Nirvana or seeing the relationship of space and time in the mind's eye reformats perception.

"...AI does not pose a threat to humanity, as the human operator will be able to interrupt the work if he sees a threat."

Given this, is Artificial Intelligence not but another tool in the propaganda war, guided by algorithms (and humans in positions of power)?

Expand full comment

It can be, but there is a massive discussion in the implementation of AI as a propaganda machine, in the automated sense. Propaganda guided by algorithms has already been "a thing" so far though.

As I see now, we will see AI x AI rather than everyone antecipated, which is beneficial for the people who want centralized ID at a global scale.

LLMs are a black box. That where all the concern and criticism lies. Nobody knows how current models achieve the results they do.

Palantir was named after seeing stones controlled by the Satanic villain Sauron in Tolkien's Lord of the Rings. "Palantir Technologies" is an interesting name choice made by transhumanist Peter Thiel.

Because of those who control these technologies I am not sure how much to believe. The pandemic has shown us how easy it is to deceive the public using scientific papers and reports. JAMA was one of the offenders as I recall. Pardon my skepticism. Of course the question "why would they deceive us about something like this?" needs asking. If this is a deception it would be to expand the technocrats' power and help end certain professions--such as medicine. Which is a goal of Mr. Global in the near future.

This technology is outside the bounds of control of elites and governments it took everyone, including the creators themselves by surprise.

Now anyone can train their LLMs, and create similar models, and there are numerous tutorials and research on refining the models (this is where they can do all the amazing things you may see around).

If anything elites will attempt to push for massive regulation of AI technology by the simple fact it makes everyone "equal". AI is just a tool, it can be used for both good, and evil (they want to use for evil).

There is an argument of the use of LLM for nefarious purposes, undeniable and inevitable, but this will be made by non-state actors. I get your skepticism.

Thiel is a huge nerd. palantir is named after the seeing stones, one of this programs is named Gotham 😆. Otherwise yes he is a neo aristocrat and transhumanist.
