Wife and I love hiking and do a fair amount in N Idaho. Another way to deepen the training is to wear ankle weights. There’s an old US military study that showed 1 pound on your feet burns equivalent energy to 5 pounds on your back. Since I have a desk job, I’ve started having numbness in my left big toe from sciatic nerve impingement. It is improved by hiking but worsens by hiking with heavy backpack loads. The ankle weights help a lot fitness. Then when you don’t wear them you feel super light on your feet.

That is another good way to strenghen the ankles, a condition quite a few number of people have and aren't aware. That is a good idea !

If there is one thing I can't complain about my country, would be its beauty. Brazil can be very beautiful, and a lot of our people don't value that.

Thank you for sharing these beautiful experiences, photos & insights about your life. What an invigorating experience this hiking has been ❤! Agree with everything. Rucking is awesome!. Especially for fast recovery. Even if you dont go hiking you can put on 10-20kg vest and do your daily chores, clean, go to markets etc and you will still get the benefit! Great to know you have recovered & keep enjoying your life ❤ Thank you for this beautiful invigorating & energising post!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

I share these in hope it helps someone needing help, or it becomes the incentive for some to start small, incremental changes and recover from whatever ill afflicts them. One thing I learned in the past few years was, you never know who is reading what you put in the net, and how things you may find innocuous or useless can be the spark needed for some people.

Such a great post. “To me, the journey is often more important than the destination, and discovery is what drives me, the views are just God and Nature rewarding your efforts”. I needed that today. Ty

I've inherited some land (a piece I found magical as a child so a dream come true for me) and am keeping busy clearing it with a mattock. I sweat a lot! In the mornings I write. In the afternoons I garden. I'm feeling so much stronger both mentally and physically. Being in nature is a healing experience for me. I plan to live there and keep goats and chickens. Great post. I find you inspiring.

Owning a piece of land in the middle of nowhere is still a out of reach dream to me, so I am always happy when others are able to achieve it. Physical labor of any form will greatly improve the body and the mind.

Being in nature is a healing experience to all of yes, and I mean this on both a spiritual and biological perspective, to a point I would say it is a necessity, and not being in nature cost people their health long term.

Thank you for the kind word, I don't think I am inspiring, but do hope some of these more personal pieces of information come to help someone needing help.

Indeed, especially when I started delving into kynurenine, and the answer on most recent papers was the same, besides some designer "stuff" the best way is just the good old exercise. The older you are, the more benefit you get from it, staving off old age ills.

Wish I had somewhere to hike. - it is flat and boring in every direction all around me.

I miss the mountains of NC..from a vacation years ago. The Midwest is a dull place.

Most of my rucking and walking are done in urban areas, with the park 2 miles away from my house being the usual spot.

I don't have a view, but being in nature is very positive for your health, even if the landscape is boring :)
