While dense in further reading material, and in references, I decided not to overcomplicate this one. Galectin-3 plays a SIGNIFICANT AND CENTRAL ROLE on all of this. I may come back to Galectins in 2024, maybe.

Also, primary exposure to endotoxins/LPS vehemently dictate how your body responds to secondary exposure to different fungi, including Candida. Another complex angle to further investigate, and another angle it is referred in one of my other articles.

I wish everyone a great week ahead.

This east confirms all my instincts on my sons’ mysterious issues. Inflammatory responses that cause irregular heartbeats and rashes and anaphylaxis with no known causes or “allergens” in two boys... they are both offered corticosteroid steroids that I always instinctively reject using... and we try our best to fight off fungal growth etc. But when dealing with kids who just want to be normal and eat the normal foods teens eat (absolute crap and junk) it is so difficult to get them to undertake a diet that they feel is restrictive and “weird” even if it means that it will help them heal and he be well. Ugh.

Adults will pursue these things because they value their health and are willing to sacrifice in order to achieve those ends. Convincing teens to do this is a giant hurdle. Also because none of the doctors or specialists ever suggest fasting or ketogenic diet as a remedy I’m just the weird mom who reads the stuff compiled by a guy named JP on substack 😂. But it’s not funny really.

No matter how much science supports this when mainstream medicine does not follow the science they undermine the very remedies that are needed by so many people! It’s beyond frustrating.

For whatever reason I didn't get a notification to this message.

Yeast/Mold/Fungi can cause these reactions by themselves, but also by the breakdown of their layers (they have a similar thing to "endotoxins" to put it very simply?). Multiple papers recently advocated for stopping the mass prescription of corticosteroids because, quite literally, drastically raises the incidence of fungal infections, and they are very annoying to deal with.

Dietary intervention, and especially fasting are taboo, only a small group of doctos will ever recommend it for ANY issues, let alone complex immunological interactions.

The widespread usage of AI tailored for medicine will probably fix a lot of these issues, but then, why the hell use a doctor for general health if a medicine-AI would do the same job ? I even shared a paper in which ChatGPT got higher score on every metric, especially emphaty, compared to doctors... funny and depressing.

Hope all is good with your family otherwise.

The current thing is tachycardia in my 13 year old. Had 48 hr electric heart monitoring... soon will have echocardiogram. But docs suspect viral inflammation is throwing off the electrical signal for heart rate. Also he has low iron and is anemic. Was put on iron pills.

16 year old still has spontaneous hives that cover his whole body head to toe and that’s all while on 40mg morning snd 40mg evening daily of antihistamines.

Covid broke something in both of them and we’ve yet to fix it. It’s a constant battle.

Also both of them attend public school with a certain % of people there still being dumb enough to be getting boosted!!! It’s nuts. But people are still doing that shit. And my kids have to be around these weirdos.

Have you asked for both broad micro and mycobiome tests and also CULTURES of bacteria and yeast ? That can give you the inkling of answers at least from my biased experience.

Low iron and anemic and heart "stuff" can be either viral or viral and bacterial. Or liver/thyroid. Lots of things mess with iron.

I have been dealing with a severe bacterial infection for 6 weeks now. Uphill battle 😭 I know and share your pain

Thanks for the interesting work. I've been dealing with chronic candida in my gut (and probably sinuses and ears) for more than 15 years now. Cenventional medicine has no clue about this. Been on the low carb version of the GAPS diet for more than 5 years (excludes lentils too, and no fruit), have been trying probably all herbal antifungals that are out there, they all help for as long as I take them, if I stop symptoms come back again. It's quite exhausting, still can't eat more than one tiny portion of lentils or whole grains per day. BMI at 17 or 18 now. Fasting? Isn't it that ketones are a favorite food for Candida?

There is a large discussion on ketones and fasting to get rid off candida, from everything I read and saw usually helps less severe or chronic cases, when the cases are more complex it is a uphill battle for sure.

In your case you would need a candida specialist and many interventions at the same time, because you have to slowly get rid of it, otherwise you get severe bouts of inflammation.

I think, if possible, you would benefit from a comprehensive micro and mycobiome test, in odd cases (outliers) Candida overgrowth is a response to something else, as a very paradoxical defense mechanism.

Other readers posted a few books that may be of interest to you.

Thanks so much for getting back to me. Fasting is not an option at this point I simply don't have the reserves. Since I am an MD plus TCM specialist I see a lot of patients with less severe cases that I can help, ironically can't help myself. In my own case and in many cases I see the deeper reason for this lies in the psyche, in many cases (as in my own) there are abusive relationships that are near impossible to extricate oneself from, i.e. family.

Well, you being an MD makes "things easier" for me, since I can just point you towards a direction. There are a few approaches to getting rid of chronic candida but you need to be extremely careful on how aggressive you are with it, otherwise you can either get severe bouts of inflammation or even a Herxheimer reaction (incredibly rare but I have seen a few).

Dealing with Candida as you probably are very aware is rare because of the damn biofilms, so first you need to address any active infection, then move on the breaking the biofilms with proteolytic enzymes and once again addressing a new infection. It is very very taxing on the body and immune system.

You could try at first simple adding Quercetin or Fisetin and anything that boosts NAD to start. But a costly but more "productive" route are peptides. I will just list the names here, you can buy them online and obviously read a bunch about them.

LL-37 - has anti-candida effects

BPC-157

KPV - also has anti-candida and anti-staph effects

They have many other effects too. If the immune system finds itself struggle there are also peptides for recovery. I hope this helps you in any way.

I completely agree with you on the mind aspect, I have told some readers and wrote a few times mind over body is real and even cited recent evidence, plus shared my personal experiences. One can surpass trauma but I know from experience it is hard. Best regards 🙏🏻

I have two peptides articles here, very short, but the gist of it is, look into Thymalin if your immune function fluctuates too much, or depending where your Lymphocytes levels are, it is very potent, and can be helpful in a myriad of conditions.

Here is one good article about it -> https://link.springer.com/article/10.1134/S2079086421040046

Best regards Gregor.

Thank you, yet again! Looked briefly into Thymalin and it seems more realistic to do then the other peptides (LL37 was at 240 $ per 1 mg!!) - so I might do that. However, I still believe that nothing done on the physical level of the problem will eradicate the problem for good, if it isnt solved at the mental/emotional level. Can't shake off the abusers in your life, can't shake them off in your body. Much thanks again, very much appreciated.

Look into the “born free protocol”. Addresses Candida in a comprehensive manner.

Do you think one of the effects of Covid (an other viral) infection could be the depletion of polyamine, especially in the gut?

Expand full comment
author

Yes, but it also affects the gut mucosa itself, it shifts the microbiome and directly interferes with bacteria and biofilms.

Many LC people also have a skewed or defective glutamine and tryptophan metabolism in the gut.

There is a new paper on how many long COVID are deficient in gut serotonin (therefore systemic deficiency). It isn't just one cause that is why it is so hard to understand sadly.

I read your substack on misfolded proteins. Can you dumb it down a bit more?

Isn‘t misfolded proteins equal to amyloidosis?

Proteins misfold and accumulate for multiple reasons. There are a myriad of necessary components and events for that to happen.

Amyloidosis is a disease, it is the accumulation of amyloid fibrils in organs. There are multiple types of misfolded proteins that cause diseases

Any idea what antifungals we might want to ask our doctors for if we suspect this post is relevant to us?

The doctor will recommend the one he thinks suits the patient need. It is better to start with mild antifungals.

Fluxo, Mico, Voriconazole to name a few of the most common ones.
