I am writing a Beyond Mathematical post, a longer opinionated piece, and I rather not send multiple e-mails per day, alas I said I would if occurrences of significance came to be.
Explosion Reported at Freeport LNG; U.S. Natural Gas Prices Tumble
Emergency crews were responding Wednesday to an explosion near midday at the Freeport liquefied natural gas (LNG) export terminal on Quintana Island on the Upper Texas coast, according to media reports.
The incident occurred around 11:40 a.m. CT, according to the Brazosport Community Awareness and Emergency Response program. No injuries initially had been eported. All personnel had been accounted for, according to the company.
Posts on Twitter from those nearby in the area also said a fire was visible, and they were sheltering in place. However, no evacuations had been ordered as of 1 p.m. CT.
The facility produces about 2 Bcf/d of LNG. The explosion comes at a time when U.S. exports are surging and domestic storage inventories are low. Henry Hub prompt prices fell as much as 30 cents on the news and were trading at around $8.98/MMBtu Wednesday afternoon.
Another one of those pesky coincidences on critical infrastructure that are common occurrences.
It is not like the gasification and LNG structure is highly technological, and easily hackable, building pressure and causing accidents is beyond the realm of possibilities (I am being sarcastic).
Few days ago was reported that OMW can not export anymore fuel due to an accident at the Schwechat oil refinery.Another surprising coincidence...
